Ok quick post about some events this weekend! I wanted to make sure all of the New Yorkers here get to the Apple Store in Soho tonight at 7pm for a FREE performance by our favorite electronic-rockers Streetlab. Bring some friends, check out some laptops, and hear the guys throw down a full-on live set.
Then later tonight, check out Xavier de Rosnay of Justice fame DJing in the Webster Hall grand ballroom.
There's a great start to Valentine's Day weekend everyone! Have fun!
Justice released their second full length album last week entitled, "A Cross the Universe". The release is a live album and is accompanied by a DVD.
The CD captures Justice's unique live performance incredibly accurately. They spin all of the tracks from "Cross" as well as their remixes of "NY Excuse" and Simian's "We are Your Friends". They manage to remix all of these tracks live as well as mash a few of them together. The show ends with a raging metal head banger mixed with "TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY". If you caught Justice any time in the last year and half there are no surprises on this album. I saw them twice during this tour and it is incredibly similar to both of these shows. Not to say that their live show isn't fantastic, because it is, but being able to compare multiple performances and not finding a lot of differences is a little disappointing. I was hoping for at least a few tidbits of new and exciting material. For those who weren't able to make it out and see them, this is an excellent substitution.
The DVD is a look into the life of Justice that is brand new for me. The documentary follows the French Duo, label mates Kavinsky, Sebastian, and Busy-P, their gun-toting manager, and their friendly bus driver across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Not surprisingly, the pair does a lot of partying, but they also get into a lot more serious trouble than you might expect. The hour long documentary includes bottles being smashed over heads, a lot of irresponsible behavior with guns, and multiple arrests, not to mention some fantastic live footage. Look for cameos from such celebrities as Anthony Kiedis and Kanye West. Although you don't here Justice speak much, the documentary is very entertaining.
"A Cross the Universe" is a must have for any fan of Justice.
Probably one of the most blogged about, awarded, booked, and overplayed artists of 2007 and 2008, Justice are on top of everything. You can't ignore their excellent debut album †, or the equally awesome music videos that they've made for each of the singles.
This is one of those great videos. Unlike D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO which were aimed to be radio-friendly, infectious, club hits...STRESS is a straight up guerilla-style documentary following a crazy gang rocking † jackets. They're trashing everything in sight, including radios that pump out Justice's own D.A.N.C.E.
I hope Justice release a DVD compilation of all their music videos...they're just too good to missed.

Thats right, everyones favorite musical duo has teamed up with Surface 2 Air to put out some uniform pieces for those who can find them quick enough. The collection consist of two denim pants and 3 jacket styles that will be limited to 150 peices globally. Get your camping gear ready and head to one of these retailers at the start of June: Surface To Air Paris, Surface To Air Brazil, Colette, Barneys, Lane Crawford, Isetan, Le Bon Marché, Paris Texas, Asylum, Le Shop, Incu.
The new video for the single "DVNO" from Justice. I'm thinking the concept of the video is reworked opening title sequences, like the classic HBO logo, 20th Century Fox opening, etc.
Ok, need tickets to that oh so sold-out show on the 20th for Justice? If you're a "fun, cool, cute chic" you can score yourself a ticket AND a date to see the French boys perform at Terminal 5. Hit up our mystery man:

I've got a firm belief that whenever these music marathons or industry showcases you should go to as many shows as you possibly can because lots of bands that normally don't come to perform show up in droves. Because there are a gazillion bands performing at the CMJ marathon, I'm highlighting the parties/shows that I think should not be missed. Each title is a link to the ticket/RSVP page, and has the pricing in bold. This little list will be updated up through CMJ.
10/17
Fool's Gold Tour w/ Kid Sister, DJ Mehdi, A-Trak, Kavinsky - 10:30pm @ Hiro Ballroom - $12
You've probably heard of Kid Sister from the Kanye "Can't Tell Me Nothing" mixtape. She's rocking out the show with Mehdi and Kavinsky who are both excellent Djs from the now world-famous Ed Banger crew. Oh yeah...and don't forget DMC champion A-trak who just happens to also be Kanye's DJ.
New Young Pony Club, Muscles, Simian Mobile Disco (DJ set) - Studio B
10/19
MSTRKRFT, Z-Trip, Lazaro Casanova - Studio B
It's cool to see it mixed up with Z-Trip who's sets get people going nuts. I saw him spin on the Scratch tour back in 2003 where he retired his 45" records-only set here in NYC. Don't miss this! MSTRKRFT of course are the big boys of the scene right now so if you haven't seen them play out, here's your chance.
Best friends Matt and Kim and Flosstradamus are gonna throw down an awesome show on the 20th. If Justice isn't your thing you should definitely go see these guys. Matt and Kim are probably the happiest sounding kids you'll ever hear and Flosstradamus throws down amazing sets mixing with 3 tables no less! Don't Miss This!
JUSTICE, Midnight Juggernauts - Terminal 5 - SOLD OUT for Oct 20th
The talk of 2006 + 2007, with that infectious little diddy D.A.N.C.E. in everyone's head they have THREE dates at CMJ! The 20th is the first date and sold out, but you might get lucky and get a ticket from a friend.
DJ sets from Vito, Druzzi, & Mattie (The Rapture, Throne Of Blood), James F!@#$%^ Friedman (Throne Of Blood), Holy Ghost (DFA), and live performances from Yeasayer (We Are Free), and MGMT. Plus a special DJ set from Justin Broadrick of Jesu/Godflesh/Napalm Death fame.
This is for all the New Yorkers! A slew of excellent electronic shows are coming into town in the next few months. Justice are playing their first headlining CMJ show on October 20th at the brand new Terminal 5, one of the Bowery Presents new venues.
The Chemical Brothers are also embarking on their first US tour in God knows how long alongside Ladytron at McCarren Pool on September 22nd.
Justice last played here a few months ago with the Ed Banger crew and absolutely killed it at Hiro Ballroom, as well as the Chemical Brothers at Ultra NY two years ago!
Don't sleep on these shows as they will definitely sell out!
