I love supporting folks from my hometown, especially when they're actually really talented. DC-based producer/dj Nacey hit us up with his remix of Major Lazer's "Hold the Line". If you don't know Nacey, he's part of the hot Nouveau Riche crew with Gavin Holland and Steve Starks.
Nacey's remix of the Lazer tune is a slower and darker jam but keeps Santigold's great Mr. Lexx's vocals intact.
Zero 7 are back with a new album titled Yeah Ghost and lucky for you, they sent us a fresh album track titled "Everything Up (Zizou)", featuring the vocals of Eska Mtungwaz, to share with all our readers. Keep an ear out for the first single "Medicine Man" coming out later this summer and pick up the album when it drops on September 8th!
"Hooligans" is topping the UK DMC charts at #1, so Don decided to share two more remixes with us, both from bass-heavy masters. First off, famed Dutch dnb production crew Noisia decided to mix things up and gave "Hooligans" their own take on the tune, but with a twist on electro. I have to hand it to Noisia, they've broken out of the stigma of being within one genre, and they once again prove that they are one of the best production teams out there. This tune will be playing all over very soon.
Secondly, we've got a dubstep cut from Wire, Example's tour DJ. It's hard, nasty, grimey will make your brain rollover in its skull. It works really well with the original tune, but is a lot nastier than Doorly's take (which is fantastic as well).
Grab both below, and be sure to give both remixers, Example, and Don Diablo himself some myspace love!
It's Saturday, it's May, and summer is officially here in Brooklyn. It seems truly appropriate then that we received this dreamy dance remix of Frankmusik from the always busy Don Diablo this very morning! It's a slower retouch of the new single "Confusion Girl" (Out July 6th) from Frankmusik's debut album Complete Me out July 13th.
It's perfect for a day like this, so make a mix and blast it at a BBQ or the park!
For the past few months, Adam Freeland has been pushing the first single, "Under Control", from his new band, Freeland. With remixes from Alex Metric, Zombie Nation, and others, the debut single has already gotten lots of blog love and attention. Well today we've got the music video for the single and it truly adds a whole new dimension and energy to the track. Just imagine it live folks! Really psyched for this record, it's shaping up to be a big one. Catch it out this June on Freeland's own Marine Parade.
OH and be sure to catch the band on tour here in the US starting May 1st at DC's own Rock and Roll Hotel, followed by stops in NYC, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco.
Ok I'm pretty damn sure the title translates to "Pay Attention". The Portuguese language has a sexy edge to it which sounds like Spanish blended with Italian and French. On that note, this steaming-hot track is from a combo of Brazilians called The Fire and Reason. Bella sings, Steve plays the instruments.
With a mix of fidget influences and Bella's voice, the track is definitely going to be getting massive play this year. They're releasing this track on Larry Tee's So What label later this summer, but we've got the remix now so you can whet your appetite and start craving the EP! Damn, that sounded like a post about food? Maybe I'm hungry.
This album was my first CD, and seeing this in my inbox this morning seriously got me excited. It's a track I've always thought would be awesome to remix due to the high energy, plus this is before Offspring fell off. The StereoHeroes did a great job taking the track into harder dance territory, with awesome builds, all the while keeping some of the track's original elements.
The following is a guest review from our boy Jeff of The Culture of Me.
It's always fascinated us here how artists, bands and fans outside of the US seem to take to the sounds from the twenty years from the day that rock 'n' roll as a genre happened. They simply "do" the music better than any of us, with more fervor than any of us and with the panache and vigor that seem to be all but gone from our minds here in the states. With the handful of people that make up Copenhagen, Denmark's The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, this all couldn't be more true. They've taken to the 60s soul, psychedelia and bubblegum like no band we've seen before--and remarkably, they've only been around for about a year.
And Sunday night, at their packed show at NYC's Le Poisson Rouge, throughout their 45-minute set of brassy, dancey and spunky tunes, they showed just how easy it is to win over hearts. With guitar, keyboard and bras-laden tracks like "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" and the iPod commercial used "Around The Bend", singer Mette Lindberg chose to let her voice do the, er, talking, flowing in and out of her range (massive for a woman so small of frame) and while the idiosyncrasies of her voice--which tends to squeak and bend somewhat randomly--may turn off some listeners, we didn't find it a trouble at all. What was most fun for us though, was that you couldn't have wiped the smile off of her or her bandmates' faces the whole time. Refreshingly simple, infectious and capital-F fun, we cannot tell you enough about putting this band on your watchlist. And seriously, prepare to have your summer taken over when the group's debut full length, Fruit, comes out May 19.
I meant to post this waaaay back on the 9th of March. We featured Funkabit about a year ago on the site with his track "Cardigan". This time around, he's returned with a fresh new offering interestingly called "Lords of Coney Island", an EP with remixes from acts like Brini, Scuola Furano, Fare Soldi, and Useless Wooden Toys.
The original is a great pumping and rising electro track with a catchy vocal sample. Funkabit definitely knows how to play with bass adding to the fun vibe that his tracks have, not too hard or too slow. The Brini remix brings the track up to a higher energy and is perfect for that time that you need a hard anthem track. The Fare Soldi remix is a bit funkier while Scuola Furano's remix on "Lords" starts off great, but doesn't really go anywhere like their Act Yo Age remix we posted up a few weeks ago. The Wooden Toys mix really takes a whole different direction with the track and stays interesting by playing around with the original sound.
All in all, the EP is a fantastic grab with the original and Brini mix being the best highlights off the record.
So we had a chance to check out the extremely-busy Don Diablo live for the first time here in NY at M2 this past Friday. He laid down a killer set, and not only that, he did a live performance with UK MC, Example! We're psyched to share one of the tracks from that performance today; it sounded really amazing live with the two artists.
"Instant Replay" does not dissapoint, as many collaborations tend to just fall through. The electro and grime hip hop feel to the track makes it something that will get people going crazy. I can only imagine the damage remixes of this track will cause.
Diablo is also producing part of Example's forthcoming album together with Chase & Status, Calvin Harris, MJ Cole and others and he remixed his forthcoming single "Girl Can't Dance". If you're in Miami for WMC, catch them Thursday March 26 either at the IDMA's or at Areo Bar Miami for a promotional show.
French producers Night Drugs sent us this fantastic remix by rising start Dirty Disco Youth. Drilling bass, heavy beats, and that DDY sound that we've come to love. Both acts are ones to watch in 09.
Act Yo Age is back at it again with a new track "LUCKY 13" and a remix of their track "The Flash" by Italian Rap/House act Scuola Furano. Podcast users, if you'd like LUCKY 13, jump over to the site to pick it up.
The Scuola Furano remix of "The Flash" has a classic house feel to it with classic synth stabs, a fantastic long buildup, and drum breakdowns. If you're a fan of old-school sound, this is the track for you.
The group's new single, "LUCKY 13" is a drilling electro track with ragga vocal hooks. As the group says:
With the innocence of a Columbian drug lord, the smile of a brazilian girl working the famous Help club in Copacabana and the gangsta of a young Biggie, comes Lucky 13, Act Yo Age's finest moment - Lucky 13. The best track on the block. We hope you agree. Also peep the B side, an unbelievable interpretation of the now classic Act Yo Age track - The Flash. This killer mix coming courtesy of Italian funk-stars SCULOA FURANO, mixed [engineered] by none other than BOT, you might know him better as the half of CROOKERS.
Pick up the track when it drops on Sweat It Out, appropriately, on Friday, March 13th only on Beatport.
Freeland (Adam Freeland) has a new single out titled "Under Control" off his upcoming new album Cope; we were able to get our hands on a fantastic remix by German-producer Miles Dyson. Dyson's cut is a pumping electro anthem with exciting buildups, drops, and a bassline and vocal arrangement that will drive the crowd wild.
Goodies for all today. We're finally back online after 3 days of downtime and stress. Well, after a beautiful snow storm and staying in taking care of business, server issues, and other things, I'd like to bring your attention to this tasty bit of news.
This week Pendulum are starting their second US Live Tour. The tour has stops in many cities and shows the group wasn't able to hit up the first time around, including SXSW and WMC shows.

As you've no doubt read before, I really, really recommend you go see them if you have the chance. Check out the awesome tour poster above and enjoy a dark and warbly remix of "Showdown" by Excision below!
The Chewy Chocolate Cookies hit us up with their remix of Adele's "Hometown Glory". Not as hard as their usual club tracks, but it's still a strong remix that you can blast at any party and listen to casually. Actually, I really liked it and hope they work on more material like this alongside their club anthems.
Here's a quote from the guys about the track:
After meeting her @ Heatrow airport (we were on the same flight to NY...she was in first class and CCC was in NO class...hahahaha) (this is supposed to be funny, so please..laugh! :) ) it's LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!. During the flight, her album "19", was included in the "On board entertaiment"... how cool is that!?!?!? You fly from London to NY and your album is available for listening to all passengers...perfect time to show off...very very cool!!! Anyway..."Hometown glory" is simply amazing, and this is CCC hommage to her beautiful voice.
Well, a happy Valentine's day to all of you from us here at Subdrive HQ. I'll be out today with my lovely girl, and I hope you will be with someone you either love or just a friend hating on this card holiday. Hey, whatever you do, have fun...and throw this Don Diablo minimix made specifically for this day on your stereo!
The always great Mustard Pimp took MoDo's one-hit wonder 90s eurodance track "Ein, Zwei, Polizei" and have turned it into a hardcore fidget monster. Will do some damage at some clubs and definitely get folks cheering. Love the synth stutter.
If you want to hear the original, here's the music video in all its original cheesiness.
DJ Morsy, founder of DJ-collective NANA CHILL and promoter + resident of the infamous Crooked Disco parties here in Brooklyn, just sent us his latest track, "On Fire". It's a dirty fidget track with a hip-hop tinge.
A fantastic DJ and remixer, Morsy's "On Fire" is his best original that we've heard and definitely has some potential as a dancefloor smasher.
Within 2 days, every single blog has posted about Don Diablo. And their right to, he's got talent and his latest tracks are samples of a producer who will be blowing up in 09. His upcoming release, "Black Heat", is a fidget-electro monster with some catchy vocals that will please the hard sound lovers as well as the pop fanatics.
The digital retail has a remix by Australian producer Whitenoise, but if you want that one, you'll have to wait a week and get it from the digital shops.
This totally came to me as a surprise because usually with a name like DJ Hell and a reputation for pushing the electroclash sound back in the day, this track speaks more like Massive Attack than a person who named themselves after the most hardcore place in the ethereal planes.
Hell's "The Angst" is a brooding piece that would fit perfectly into a psycho-thriller flick. The track slowly builds, but never really explodes, staying at a steady pace using subtle instrumentation to build intensity of a form. For some it may come off repetitive, but for those of you who are into the aforementioned, Hell's track is a treat. I hope that if and when he performs live, that he takes this track to the next level and makes it more dramatic on stage.
This is just a piece of what Hell is calling his "masterpiece" titled Teufelswerk or Devil's Work. The record is split into two themes, "Night" and "Day". Hell, with friend Peter Kruder, produced the "Day" half assisted by noted multi-instrumentalists Christian Prommer and Roberto Di Gioia. The “Night” album is a raw mix of Chicago and Detroit influences combined with Hell’s unique approach to electronics making this part of the record apt for the dance floor.
In reference to the album, Hell says it's his most personal work yet. A culmination of everything that he knows and that "...I don't think I can make a better record." DJ Hell - The Angst
Pendulum Kick America's Ass in Second US Tour - Girl In The Fire
It's amazing folks and radio are all over Pendulumnow. They reform as a live band and people are flipping their shit over them. Guys, they've been around, but yes, they are that awesome, welcome to the party.
The band will be touring the US in March and skipping us here in dear old New York this time around (we got them for two dates last time around).
Here's the tour list. To get a feel of what you're in store for check out their previous Tour of the Americas Minimix.
March 6th - Vancouver. Commodore Ballroom March 7th - Seattle. Showbox at the Market March 8th - Portland. Roseland Theatre March 10th - San Francisco. Grand Ballroom March 13th - Pomona. Glass House March 14th - Los Angeles. Club Nokia March 15th - Tucson. The Rock March 17th - Salt Lake City. Murray Theatre March 18th - Denver. Ogden Theatre March 21st - Austin. The terms much of the press and PR folks say like "electro rockers" and "live electronica band" kinda annoy me, because honestly they don't fit. Their drum 'n bass roots are extremely hard to ignore and they've evolved and changed their sound since their first vinyl and dubplate releases, turning into a bonafide epic stadium band. Yes, the root is rock and drum 'n bass, but its very obvious their influenced by classic rock (you can hear this when their performing).
With the release of Spiral, on Concord Dawn's Uprising imprint, Pendulum was hard to ignore. The production was techier and hard, and sounded completely different than a lot of stuff out there. The sound changed up with "Slam" and "Another Planet", forming their current sound that can be heard on singles and albums since.
Now, they've truly mixed the genres over and its more rock than anything but stays true to its high energy dnb roots, and its fantastic. Their shows here in New York City were insane and definitely prove that they're at the top of their game. This clip from a show in Auckland, New Zealand is just another example.
If you have the opportunity to see them live, do not miss them.
Elite Force is one of my favorite producers. He never ceases to please. Even back 5 years ago, Shack was destroying dance floors worldwide with his nasty beats.
His latest remix of Black Twang's "Travellin'" is a groovy, dark tech track. He calls it tech-funk, which I can definitely hear in some aspect, but all-in-all it's true Elite Force sound.
The Prodigy is always a favorite to remix, but it's rare that I get an e-mail telling me why the remixer didn't like the original. Usually it's "Oh I loved it and I wanted to put my spin on it." But Germany's Dirty Disco Youth was dead honest, stating that the original's breaks/dnb feel wasn't his thing, but he felt something special about it and wanted to create a hard electro monster out of it.
Well, goal achieved. His "Omen" remix is hard-hitting, keeping some of the elements of the original which will win over Prodigy fans as well as new kids. Like with his Deadmau5 remix, the Omen cut is nasty and gritty. Definitely something DJs should have in their digital crates.
With support from top-shelf acts like Boys Noize and the Bloody Beetroots, a second EP in the works, and official booking, Dirty Disco Youth is definitely an artist to watch this year.
The Prodigy - Omen (Dirty Disco Youth Remix) Removed at the request of the rights owner.
We got this in the mail the day of the Inauguration, but as I said, Subdrive operations were out because we were in DC rocking out with the millions of our fellow crazed Americans.
The American Dream Team boys wanted to celebrate and welcome the 44th President with arms wide open by starting off the new presidency with a spankin' new remix of Trouble Andrew's "Chase Money".
If you're still in DC this weekend or live there, do not miss TADT performing live at the Rock & Roll Hotel tomorrow Friday the 23rd. Seriously, DC, go check them out!
We sure do love Streetlab around these parts. They just sent us their latest cut from their upcoming EP titled Bootlegs and B-Sides filled with the aforementioned, of course.
You may know this track if you downloaded their SELEKTOR mix recently. It's The Beatles' classic "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" with a very familiar Streetlab touch: the deep bass, pumping beat, and that energetic but laid back energy the boys lay onto their tracks.
Subdrive faves, Streetlab, sent us their remix of Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead". They took the original concept and fleshed out the sonic scape, adding much more bass and a thicker kick drum with a driving beat. Still dreamy and chill, but with some more oomph. I honestly prefer it to the original and it's a perfect track to throw on to open up a set or party. Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Streetlab Remix)
Ok, idea-bubble time! Doodle the 8-bit sounds of Crystal Castles with just a little more rock flying around it, then scribble in some indie-rock vocals (not screaming, definitely not screaming), and you've got the pop-8-bit rock of we are ENFANT TERRIBLE.
Steed Lord have survived a car crash, touring, and now they've got the imminent release of their debut album, Truth Serum, on deck.
To give you a taste of what mayhem is at hand, they sent us a freshly-baked remix by Jack Beats, who happens to be signed to Hervé's Cheap Thrills label. Fidget fans take notice, this remix is definitely something up your alley with slick cut up vocal samples and some fantastic basslines.
Steed's new album comes out in a few weeks everywhere digitally so keep an eye out for it and pick it up! Oh and as an added bonus, check out the music video for one of the new tracks called "New Crack City" above.
Yuksek is at it again, this time retouching Kaiser Chiefs' "Never Miss a Beat". Oh and if you know your Yuksek remixes, you should definitely recognize a "signature" bleep from Yuksek's fantastic remix of Das Pop's "Fool for Love". It makes up the main synth lead in the Das Pop track. On the Kaiser Chef's remix, it's an accent on the main melody which you can hear at 2:04 in.
Yuksek is currently on tour in Europe and Kaiser Chiefs just dropped their new album Off With Their Heads on October 28th. Pick it up on iTunes.
Josh Wink fans, rejoice. Today is your day to have a rave flashback. UK dance rockers South Central are pushing their debut album The Owl of Minerva (out now on Egregore Music) with their latest single, "Higher State", which is a cover of Wink's classic "Higher State of Consciousness".
I'm seriously getting psyched to see these guys perform here in the states. But until then, I guess we'll have to get thrown back into a mid-90's UK rave through the new album (which is fantastic and you should go pick up now!) and videos.
With a name like The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, one can be utterly confused by whether they're actually a full-on tour or just a Danish duo producing some fantastic music. Already featured on the Apple iPod touch ad with "Around the Bend", they're picking up speed with a full-length release next year.
I'm kinda bummed because these guys played at Webster Hall with Switch and D.I.M a few weeks ago and I showed up pretty late (Ok if you were there please tell me if they even went on. They opened the main room at midnight...when did they go on?). Too bad, I'm really digging their stuff.
The Thomas Gold Remix of their track "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" is fantastic. You've got some excellent use of the original track in the first drop, followed by some bad-ass tech build-ups and a melody that are perfect for a peak-time drop. I can just see the sweating masses going ape-shit when the original cuts in and the remix drops.
Our first exclusive post and track from our boy Terror Dactel. His hot new remix of Kylie's "In My Arms" throws the dance track into overdrive with an over-the-top epic electro rager, complete with the vocals that will make the girls (and possibly some guys) chanting on the dance floor.
Milan's Lebatman makes disco-electro with a bit of an 80's synth-pop vibe. You can even get an idea of ambient layers in some of his tracks and remixes.
His original track, "La Maitresse Aux Yeux D'Or", has that old-school filter house bassline and flanged-up disco stabs. He's also adept at making some pretty good remixes such as his remix of Sunset Cruisin's "Perfect Wave" and his cut of The Cars' "Heartbreak City".
Though some of the remixes can be rough around the edges at some points, which isn't often, the talent is there and definitely makes him an artist to watch out for. Lebatman - La Maitresse Aux Yeux D'Or
You might have heard of this Polish duo, but probably under the name 3 Channels. They've been busy working on their new album under the new name Catz 'n Dogz. The reason for the change?
In the past few years, our music grown has grown up a little bit. We started to use more instruments and vocals. Catz 'n Dogz music is deeper and we work a lot harder to make the fundamental groove.
With two smash hits under their belts on Claude VonStroke's dirtybird records, they also remixed the infamous "Who's Afraid of Detroit?" into a highly coveted limited-edition release. When VonStroke heard their new sound, he signed them up to release tracks on his new mothership label.
While Catz 'n Dogz is different than their original 3 Channels project, don't dismiss it. As the guys said, their new sound is deeper and focuses more on building up a rhythm, which their track "Yes They Still Play Casio" showcases.
Be sure to pick up their new album, Stars of Zoo, out now on mothership.
Originally posted on Nov 5th, server issues didn't post until now! Sorry!
Michael Woods is a UK-based producer and DJ that should be on red alert on your radar if he hasn't been already. His new track "Natural High" is a mix of old-school vocal-house and funk with an electro edge and is out now with remixes from Micky Slim, Dino Lenny, Dave Boynes, Ant Brooks, Lee Haslam, and Michael's own alter-ego Out of Office.
Slim's cut is a bouncy wobbled-bass track that is definitely going to appeal to both the big room and underground crowds. The Out of Office Dub is a much more epic take that has to be blasted on a huge system to be appreciated. There is of course a vocal remix, but if you're not a fan of vocals on some tracks, this version is for you.
You're all probably aware that Buffetlibre is about to release their new Rewind2 remix project to the masses in 2 months, but what you might not know is that they have another remix project in the works. Yes, for real.
The Spaniards are at it again with a new "social remix" project called "Proyecto Batidora", which translated into English means "remix project". The concept is simple: you log onto the project website, check out the original tracks you like, e-mail Buffetlibre and apply for the stems of the track. Then you remix and submit.
Simple and fun, right? We got one of the first tracks off the project by UK-based Station X and it's fantastic. Check out the project here and try your hand on tracks by artists such as Cut Copy, The Bravery, Yelle, Holy Fuck, Walter Meego, Sidechains, Does it Offend you, yeah?, Dragonette, Ladyhawke, and more.
Fresh on the heels of their SELEKTOR mix, our favorite live NYC duo, Streetlab, just sent us their latest mix of Kanye's "Love Lockdown". It's a grindin', bumping mix that will definitely get you in the mood for a full night of partying.
Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Streetlab Mix) removed at the request of the artist
The New England producers, Plus Move, have a new EP titled 2099 out today on Expansion Records. The track we're sharing with you is called "BOSS", cut-up stuttering synths that will bring the house down.
The boys first got noticed online with their bootleg remix of "D.A.N.C.E.", which I'm pretty sure was the very first remix ever as it was straight form the BBC radio rip.
The EP has this crazy concept behind a sphinx and time-traveling:
Plus Move claim to have traveled through time with Sphinx to the year 2099, where together they defeated the evil ruler BOSS. In the ensuing days spent in 2099, Plus Move and Sphinx recorded these songs and brought them back to the present day as documented proof of their travels.
Today is probably one of the most important elections in the history of the United States. Today, people will determine who is the next chief of state.
And today is NOW.
The Crystal Method, like Adam Freeland and countless other DJs, have thrown in their support for Obama for President. And Subdrive is throwing its support for Obama today in the last hours.
Blast this when you're at the polls, when you're about to vote, or even as you're voting.
The fantastic 80's remix project from Buffetlibre returns as Rewind2 and this time around the artists are aiming their skills at not only the 80s, but tracks from the 70s and 90s as well. The Spaniard-run project sent us some tracks from the upcoming January 2009 release, which they say will be a free download. The names on the new project are crazy! Lots, lots, and lots of people are involved.

New remix from Don Rimini today, this time around he's dropping his neo-rave treatment on New York rockers Fires of Rome's "Set In Stone". It's part of a remix EP dropping November 4th (on digital, physical January 5th) with remixes from M83, Dada Life, Mo DJ, and DJ Angola.
To celebrate the release of their Set in Stone – The Remixes EP Fires Of Rome will play The Hours Showcase with Cazals at Hiro Ballroom November 6 [in New York]. There will be an open bar from 8-9PM immediately followed by the bands. A set by Detroit techno originator Kevin Saunderson will close out the night, presented in collaboration with GBH.
The Hours will release Fires of Rome’s debut album “You Kingdom You” on January 5th. Their adventurous kaleidoscopic sound and performances have already garnered raves from The New York Times.
You can stream the rest of the remixes right here. Pick up the official release when it drops on their myspace.
NME is calling these guys "the future", I'm calling them pretty damn good. Late of the Pier are a 4-part band from Nottingham UK. They've gotten the cover of NME and they'll be performing their NYC-debut during CMJ at both Music Hall of Williamsburg on Wednesday the 22nd and then at Pete Tong's INSIDERS CMJ showcase on the 24th with Soulwax at Irving Plaza. They've got a massive remix from Boyz Noise already out of their track "Focker", and we've got the droning and dark Emperor Machine remix of their new track "The Bears Are Coming" below!
The Outlaws sent us another great remix, this time around its for Sneaky Sound System. The boys claim their version is a bit weirder and darker than the other mixes, but hey, that's what makes it interesting to listen to and throw on.
Sick track from Chase & Status featuring the vocal styles of Plan B from their upcoming album MORE THAN ALOT out on Ram Records October 13th. The video shows the guys getting a video from one of their ex-gf's doing the most messed up things a person could do to you out of spite.
Download the track below, but seriously pick this up in full-quality when it drops!
I like Kids With Snakes. They're quirky, interesting, and artists, plus they threw a party called I Can Haz Party....awesome. They also know good music and get people in the mood to have a fun time at their parties. WIth that said, they sent me their new mix for NYC party photographer Nicky Digital's site. Some classics on the mix and some new stuff; the vibe is pretty upbeat.

Thanks to the guys at Discobelle for bringing this to our attention. Adam Freeland has been playing out an edit of Daft Punk's Aerodynamic with a bit of a chant for Barack Obama. It's pretty nice considering that in the realm of electronic music I haven't seen some outright political endorsements via tracks. We all know people are supporting certain candidates but hearing it outright on the track is a great and different thing.
If you're an Obama supporter, rock the track all the way through Election Day on November 4th. Oh and I promise to never get political on here, but this is really important. If you haven't registered for your absentee ballots or registered to vote in New York or your home state, do it now. The deadline is literally a week away.
Portmanteau are "Two silly young men from Bristol who have decided that bass heavy electro, owls, Mexican wrestling masks, and bright colours make for the best possible way to while away the hours. Portmanteau combines live instrumentation, children’s instruments, synthesisers, samplers, visuals, and their owl known only as “the Colonel”."
It's spacey, fun, disco electro and doesn't waste its time on overwritten vocals. Tracks like Thouse and Spafe definitely stand out on their new self-titled EP with warbling synths and sharp disco-era stabs.
Check out more of their stuff and give them some love at their myspace.
An entry for the Little JinderREMIX EP Contest, Portugal's VARIG has done a remix that can be best described as spaced-out dub four-four. Some elements of the track border on dub-step tinged with minimal, teasing at something bigger but never really delivering until the end. Nonetheless, it's still something that can be great to put on mid-set. Keep your sub on high for this so you get the full experience.
DFA's The Juan Maclean are going on tour to support their new album, "The Future Will Come". We got a link to their new track, Find A Way, but didn't have authorization to share with you all, until now as RCRDLBL has the honors.
The previous tour was in celebration of "Happy House", the massive international club hit being spun ubiquitously from Ibiza to Santo's Party House in NYC, but this tour will be bringing "The Simple Life", the second track to be introduced on September 15th (UK) /16th (US) from the forthcoming album “The Future Will Come”.
"The Simple Life" is an effective mixture of dark arpeggiated synth and militant italo disco drumming, with each bass line and chord change a step towards the light, which in this case belongs to Nancy Whang and the melancholy ambience her presence exudes. She trades verses back and forth with Juan himself, who comes on like a robot in therapy, slowly enunciating love confessions like "promises I never meant, it's just what I had to do."
Juan and Nancy will be supported on stage by Nick Millhiser and Gerry Fuchs (!!! and Turing Machine).
The Juan MacLean's new album, The Future Will Come, is due out in early 2009.
We know you want to be there…
The Juan Maclean US Tour Dates:
08/02: Rosarito,MX @ Rosarito Beach Strip
08/16: Monterrey, NL @ Aura Club
08/23: Denver, CO @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
You may have seen car-maker Citroen's transformer-style ads where their cars are ice-skating, running, or break dancing around an urban landscape. In one of their latest ads, we see a robot-car dancing to MC Lita's version of The Bee Gee's classic Staying Alive decked out with a disco-ball beret, disco lights, and jeweled teeth.
Though I've heard there is an official digital release coming soon, I really don't recommend playing this version out at any clubs as it sounds more like a rip.
Talk about being floored. I've been holding on to these for a while, and I can't keep them to myself anymore! I got these tracks in the mail from the up and coming GRIN Recordings the other day and was really impressed. These two tracks are from one of their star production teams, Jack Michaels + Mark Batch.
The best of the two is their track R.I.D.. If you're looking for a big room sound, but want a hard electro edge, this is it. Oh, and it's got the freaking Transformers effects in it for that extra oomph.
It's easy to hear why they've also become Ibiza anthems this past summer with the mega-club friendly To Find Me. With its simple vocals, sharp synth and beautiful string arrangement later in the bridge of the track, you just have to forget what you're doing and just dance.
If you love the tracks, be sure to pick up the full-on DJ/club friendly 320s for R.I.D. on Juno and Beatport now. Can't wait to hear what GRIN and these guys have down the pipeline!
FINALLY. After years of just DJ sets here in the United States, the guys are finally going on a full-on live assault. Their first live performance in the states was at this year's Coachella and they absolutely tore the house down from what folks are saying. They've taken their distinct, uber-polished drum 'n bass productions and finally crossed them over into the heavy rock arena.
If you've listened to our older mixes, you should know Pendulum. They are one of drum 'n bass's top-notch productions groups and were signed to Warner Bros Records recently to release what is now their rock/drum 'n bass album, In Silico. You may have heard them without even knowing it from the Verizon commercial featuring their track Mutiny, which you can pick up here.
These shows will definitely be something to see as they're performing with their entire six-person band. Below is a list of tour dates. Also, if you haven't picked up the new album, In Silico, do it. It's probably their best work to date and shows that drum 'n bass can be something more than just club music.
Oh, and to give you a sample of what you'll hear check out the Celldweller and Van She Tech remixes of Pendulum's Propane Nightmares from In Silico.

Brooklyn's own Designer Drugs have literally destroyed the competition with their take on Mariah's I'll Be Lovin U Long Time. Don't ask me about the title, but the remix is pretty damn dancey. Vote for them as the contest ends September 12th.
As per contest rules, they can't distribute their remix. I've embedded both the original and their remix below so you can hear the difference. Vote!
I've been meaning to post this for a few days, it's from Mustard Pimp, a duo from Italy, who are doing a fantastic job in the new Italian dance scene. Their Crookers remix is fantastic, but their original productions, including Oh La La Satan, are absolutely killer. Jump onto their myspace to hear the track and pick it up when it drops on CRUX records this Fall!
Sometimes we get good stuff and so-so stuff, but this act is definitely one to keep an eye on. Division Kent are a duo out of Zurich, Switzerland that are shaking things up with their electronic-rock ensemble. The track we're posting, "Superstitious", just blew me away. It's a collaboration between the band and group Risqué & Crackdown who "never met in person, it's all based on a virtual friendship...".
Their upcoming new album Gravity, out in 2009, culls from a broad range of sounds. You can get an idea of what I'm saying if you listen to their myspace.
As a bonus, we have two fantastic and totally different remixes from that upcoming disc. Fans should know The Phantom's Revenge who brings a filter-house/disco bass-pumping touch to the track "Offshore". In contrast, the Shook remix of "L'Heure Bleue" is an 80's synthpop anthem. Get 'em all below in full 320 glory!
We got this in the mail from UK production team OldSchoolReunion. It's a fantastic gritty remix of Japanese electro band Chic and the Tramp's DeLorean. The original is great, but the oldschoolreunion version definitely adds a big nightclub edge to it. Throw a hook on it and you've got an even bigger banger.

Our buddy Sam from OneMoreDisco sent this over to us to share with you all. T.E.D.D. are Pieboye and Da Vinci, two young producers out of London with residencies at places like Ministry of Sound and Fabric. You'll soon understand why when you hear their back-breaking bassline-laced remix of Modjo's classic. If you want more, head on over to their myspace page and stream all their tracks.
Breaks legends Evil Nine are back with a zombified bad-ass tune titled "They Live".Discobelle got dibs on it first from Marine Parade, so if you wanna hear both the original and the bassy Trevor Loveys remix...click on over!
Tricky is back in action and his new single, "Council Estate", is out now. The original is a track that sounds like it belongs in a Guy Ritchie flick, and its great. UK-based Dj crew Outlaws did one of the remixes on the Australian release and as its only available there, they sent us their spaced-out remix to share with you fine folk.
Oh, and did you know there's a remix contest going on? You can download the separate parts by logging on to the site and giving them your e-mail address!
I've been trying to get Morsy to send us a mix for a while now and we finally got his new Crooked Disco mix he did with Kestar! Brooklyn's own DJ Morsy has been killing it with Nanachill releasing mixtapes and is notorious around these parts for throwing some awesome parties, Crooked Disco included. So with that in mind, enjoy this banging set of wobbly-bass "cosmic" electro with some hip-hop thrown in for good measure.

My boy Shiloh sent us this amazing track today, a re-edit of Danger's 19h11 with his rhymes layered on top. The original on it's own is an excellent track but with Shiloh's cut the track has a whole new energy and potential as one of this summer's bangers.
Be sure to download the track and give him and Danger some love on their myspaces.
I haven't had the chance of seeing LA's SKEET SKEET DJ here in New York yet, but hopefully will soon. Skeet Skeet, aka Trevor, remixes, produces and throws on the jams mixing stuff like hard electro with pop and flipping it to remixes of old-school tracks. He's currently Djing on the Warped Tour this summer and is popping up everywhere including your home town. We've got him confirmed for an upcoming Selektor mix, but until then, download his April/May Mix and throw it on at your next party. Oh and be sure to check out his blog, Eat Skeet!
Goldielocks - Kids [Goldie is my favorite MSN buddy for sure, i’m gonna make sure she comes to the states soon]
MGMT - Kids Ep Version [This is the version Nick Panama was raving to me about when they were signed to his label]
Acid Girls - Palms [Two of my favorite dudes wrote a brilliant song here, and just wait till you get to hear the version with frankmusik on vocals… epic]
Sebastien Tellier - Divine (ocelot + Bird peterson remix) [Two great producers take on an already brilliant track and kill it]
The Presets - This Boys in Love (Lifelike RMX) [So Beautiful]
Katy Perry - I kissed a girl (Switch Remix) [ I could only post a snippet, but you get the idea. You’ll have to come see me live to hear the whole thing]
Katy Perry - Hot N’ Cold [My remix should be done this week, ohhh shit]
Muscles - Hey Muscles I Love You [Best Chorus EVER]
Got this in the mail the other day from Toronto-based band These Electric Lives. Their track We Should Be Believing, taken from their upcoming remix album called "TEL Remixed", got the remix treatment from our favorite Canadian Dj/producer Sta and its a gem of electro pop-rock goodness. It's a great summer track to get those indie-rock kids chanting in the middle of the DJ set.
New audio format on the horizon, headaches imminent
"Music 2.0" audio player from Audizen
The new MT9 file format, or as its being commercially labeled, "music 2.0", is a new up and coming audio format from Korea. Its sole purpose: to allow users to turn off individual instruments in the song.
For example, let's say I'm listening to a track by Fischerspooner. With MT9 I can adjust the volume or mute the bassline, the vocals, the drums, etc, seperately as if it were on the mixing board.
The inventors claim it will be widely accepted and the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) are already thinking about adopting it as an international standard. But I wonder, besides adamant musicologists, kids who want to remix, and karaoke fans, what practical day-to-day use does this format have for the music fan? Plus who wants to use a format called "music 2.0"?
On the upside, the inventors said they "don't want to be too fussy about DRM (digital right management)," so that's good I guess. What do you all think?
