The King of Pop is Dead - RIP Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, the literal King of Pop, 1958-2009. Without him pop and dance music would not have been the same. R.I.P.

BT - Rose of Jericho (VIDEO)

BT has been hard at work on a new album and a new iPhone application called Sonifi, which is supposedly the world's first portable remix app. It should be available soon through the iTunes app store for the iPhone and iPod touch.

However, his new single "Rose of Jericho" drops tomorrow on Beatport with tons of remixes that he promises will please and blow people away. Check out the official video for the original mix right above!

The Dead Pirates (McBess) - Wood (VIDEO)

Did you know über-talented illustrator McBess has a band called The Dead Pirates with fellow designer Simon? Well, the two teamed up with superhouse the Mill and created this music video for their band. The result is a fantastic piece done in McBess's signature drawing-style, all in black and white, and with a fun little story. Looking forward to seeing more from the two and hearing more of their music.

The Crystal Method - Drown in the Now (VIDEO)

The Crystal Method are set to release their 4th album, Divided by Night, out today. The video above is for the first single from the album, "Drown in the Now", featuring the fantastic Matisyahu. It's a solid comeback single, and I'm happy to see they're not changing up their style just to conform with trends. The video itself works a lot with the new album's concept, at least in direct relation to the artwork.

Buy Divided by Night now on iTunes.

Freeland - Under Control + VIDEO

For the past few months, Adam Freeland has been pushing the first single, "Under Control", from his new band, Freeland. With remixes from Alex Metric, Zombie Nation, and others, the debut single has already gotten lots of blog love and attention. Well today we've got the music video for the single and it truly adds a whole new dimension and energy to the track. Just imagine it live folks! Really psyched for this record, it's shaping up to be a big one. Catch it out this June on Freeland's own Marine Parade.

OH and be sure to catch the band on tour here in the US starting May 1st at DC's own Rock and Roll Hotel, followed by stops in NYC, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco.

Depeche Mode - Wrong (VIDEO)

Depeche Mode are set to release their new record, Sounds Of The Universe on April 20th in the UK, and the 21st in the US. Mysterious and moody, the video leaves everything on a "What the f..." kind of tip. I can definitely see a series of videos spawning from this. Watch the video in HD to get the full experience.

Tonight: MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots @ Webster Hall

Oh man, this weekend is going to be rough (in an awesome way!). First off, we're sponsoring an amazing party at Studio B on Saturday called DISCOVERY with Dirtybird's WORTHY (who we heard is gonna kill it), the Bunker's own Derek Plaslaiko, and support from more very awesome folks. But of course, there are seperate posts, so more on that in a little bit!!

I'm telling you that TONIGHT at Webster Hall, if you like your electro hard, distorted, bleeped up, and from the label Dim Mak, get your absolute fix tonight with MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots. It's going to be a huge, huge show and with a price at only $15 (advance), it's pretty good.

Interestingly enough, the Beetroots just released their new single "WARP" on Dim Mak a week ago or so. It's one of the few tracks that I've read up on sites that has actually gotten backlash. Interestingly enough, you never read any negative writeups on tracks. The sites usually focus on just posting what they consider the best, filtering out what they don't like. But hey, they still posted it and gave it an editorial critique. Negative or not, I think it's a nice change instead of having singular praise and I hope that honest opinions continue to crop up on sites all over.

Put a DONK On It

So this has been spreading around online. Honestly, it has to be seen. That's all I'm going to say.

I also found this from VBS.TV. It's basically a small behind-the-scenes on the whole sound and who these guys are.

NASA - Gifted (ft. Kanye West, Santogold & Lykke Li) (VIDEO)

From their debut The Son of Apollo, NASA's "Gifted" is absolutely gorgeous with its abstract universe and mind-voyage concepts. Lots of design elements we've seen before, but the package together looks fantastic.

Chase & Status ft. Kano - Against All Odds (VIDEO)

I'm loving Chase & Status. Their album, More Than A Lot, was 2008's best drum 'n bass LP. The fantastic thing is that they're not afraid to reach outside of the 170 bpm range and work on some truly good hip-hop. "Against All Odds" has the feel of a good-old school hip-hop track, kinda reminds me of the beat to Nas' "Made you Look".

The single is officially out on the 24th of this month, but you can pick it up on iTunes now.

Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (VIDEO)

The Friendly Fires have a new video out folks. Directed by Clemens Habicht, the concept is a play on the track's title. How did they do it? It might look like motion graphics, but it's actually double-sided sticky tape with a ton of bean bag balls!

Freeland vs DAFT PUNK - Aer OBAMA (VIDEO)

In celebration of Obama as President!

Adam Freeland got together with some crazy Kubrik toys and had a dream about Daft Punk playing out on their Pyramid in celebration of Obama winning the Presidency. The trippy visuals and stop-motion animation are fantastic, and when Obama comes out its just hilariously classic.

The American Dream Team (TADT) Video Teaser

Together since June of this year, The American Dream Team are probably the most talented VJs/musicians I know of in Brooklyn. It's really hard to find people who can balance design and music skills so well as these guys do, and even rarer to do them do both live. They're fantastic in that respect, and they DJ and VJ with a shitload of gear that promises to make it an experience to remember. Their original productions and remixes are top-notch and true-to skill mixtapes showcase their talents even more.

Here's the HD clip from their forthcoming docu flick. Like I said, TADT are ninja motion Visual DJs. You have to see them immediately if you have the chance!

MTV starts playing music videos again on MTV Music

So MTV had a bright idea, instead of launching another network to cater to only music videos (which the original MTV was supposed to be doing from the beginning), MTV Networks has launched a YouTube like site full of their music videos. Of course, the site is simply called MTV Music.

I think it's a bit of a gimmick to get more ad-sales and traffic, but, it's actually well-designed and looks legit. The site lets you search by director (such as Spike Jonze), arist, and song. It's also got a pretty good catalog of classic videos, niche-genre stuff; so it's not just today's top 40 hits. You can also embed those videos on other sites as well without having the labels taking the links down. Geekiest of all, there's an actual API.

Wow, MTV, kudos to you for doing something smart.

REWINDW/ Surkin

I'm not in town this weekend so I'm missing some big parties this weekend. The massive return of MSTRKRFT alongside with Felix Cartal and the NYC debut of Congorock is definitely going to be something NOT to miss this Friday night. We've heard that the gold-mask wearing duo have a whole different set and that it will most likely blow your face off alongside their stage setup.

Another famous crew will be returning to town as well on Saturday with Surkin djing and Para One performing live. We had the opportunity to interview these two fantastic performers, as well as Bobmo, back at the 3-year anniversary of Cut NYC. Below is the first of the 3 extended interviews you have long been waiting for.

Sick track from Chase & Status featuring the vocal styles of Plan B from their upcoming album MORE THAN ALOT out on Ram Records October 13th. The video shows the guys getting a video from one of their ex-gf's doing the most messed up things a person could do to you out of spite.

MC Lita - Staying Alive (Citroen C4 Commercial)

You may have seen car-maker Citroen's transformer-style ads where their cars are ice-skating, running, or break dancing around an urban landscape. In one of their latest ads, we see a robot-car dancing to MC Lita's version of The Bee Gee's classic Staying Alive decked out with a disco-ball beret, disco lights, and jeweled teeth.

Though I've heard there is an official digital release coming soon, I really don't recommend playing this version out at any clubs as it sounds more like a rip.

Institubes - One More Song - episode 1: Hooligan Disco

We had the opportunity to interview the Institubes guys a few months ago for the site (yes, the extended interviews will be posted...don't worry). While we were filming I noticed Para One had a ultra-compact camera (you'll see it in the videos), documenting every little tid bit of their hang out.

If you didn't know, Para One was (and still is) a film maker. Most interviews don't go into it as folks focus on his music production side. But he's a true artist with multiple hats and his latest piece, ONE MORE SONG, documents a 3 week tour the Institubes guys did here in the United States. Starting in New York and ending in LA; Surkin, Drop The Lime (or Curses!), Orgasmic, and Para One himself search for the perfect party.

The video is extremely well edited, and is described as "a road movie of sorts, a documentary on the life of young musicians on tour, a truthful account of their quest for endless skies and perfect parties."

Below is One More Song, the first episode, in its entirety.

Radiohead - House of Cards (VIDEO)

Radiohead isn't usually what we post here on the site, but I kept hearing about how their new House of Cards video was absolutely different than anything else out there in the way that it was filmed, and I wanted to share it.

Director James Frost didn't use cameras for the shoot, instead opting for 64 Lidar laser-enhanced 3D scanners to film Thom Yorke's performance. The set was riddled with engineers and tech support instead of an actual film crew, and the result is an eerie blend of art and technology that just feels right.

Because the video is all data-dependent and driven, they were also able to create an interactive viewer that lets you zoom around Thom Yorke's 3D "ghost" throughout the entire video. Zoom into the Yorke particles right here. Frost also mentioned that pretty soon folks will be able to download the data from the hosted Google code page and manipulate it to their heart's delight.

100 Year Old Converse beds with Pharrell x Santogold

So Converse, the 100-year old, classic shoe company, is celebrating their birthday in style with an original track from a combination of Pharrell (and N.E.R.D.), Santogold, and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes called "My Drive Thru".

The video has a great home-made feel to it thanks to animation short-spot wizards PSYOP pushing all the performers in a flip-book cutout style world. Check it out, it's just so damn neat.

Justice - Stress (VIDEO)

Probably one of the most blogged about, awarded, booked, and overplayed artists of 2007 and 2008, Justice are on top of everything. You can't ignore their excellent debut album , or the equally awesome music videos that they've made for each of the singles.

This is one of those great videos. Unlike D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO which were aimed to be radio-friendly, infectious, club hits...STRESS is a straight up guerilla-style documentary following a crazy gang rocking † jackets. They're trashing everything in sight, including radios that pump out Justice's own D.A.N.C.E.

I hope Justice release a DVD compilation of all their music videos...they're just too good to missed.

Shuma - Repeat Mode

Got this last night from Shuma in Crotia. Some good minimal action here, check out their myspace for more great tracks. The video is to promote their new EP, Repeat Mode, out soon on Home Made Electronica records.

Here's a little bit of a bio:
originating from Croatia's urban centre of Zagreb, Shuma represents the collaborative effort of the 2 experienced and unhinged musical minds of Davor Tosovic and Emir Cehaic.

While their first attempts of attaining musical superstardom through conveying their world-class banjo and harmonica skills to boy-band style pop hits was met with open hostility and often mistaken medical quarantines, their subsequent efforts to compose inventive electro-influenced dancefloor rockers have received a far more positive global reaction.

They played so far numerous gigs in Croatia, Germany, Austria, Swiss, Czech rep., Hungary, Cyprus, Slovenia, Romania...in clubs like legendary U60311 / Frankfurt, The Best / Zagreb, Cross club / Prague, Club Red / Nicosia, Extravaganza / Varazdin,Druckluft/ Oberhausen...

Kap10Kurt - Dangerseekers (VIDEO)

Yes, I've been on more of a video tip...but there is a reason folks! You can now get all the music videos posted here on the podcast. Which means that if you have, for example, iTunes, it's an automatic download and will drop into your iPhone, iTouch/iPod.

A design group called The Holograms did this great video for Kap10Kurt's single Dangerseekers. It's a mix of sharp geometric style, 80's nostalgia, and anime.

Kap10Kurt has remixed the likes of Dave Gahan, The Bravery, and Moby under the name k10k, but mainly does a live show using the Kap10Kurt moniker. He (or they I assume from the press photos) will be performing around Europe and Japan later this year. Check out their myspace for dates!

Heartsrevolution - C.Y.O.A. (VIDEO)

Heartsrevolution is from the woman that started Heartschallenger, a crazy ice cream truck that pumps out electronic music and sells imported Japanese candies. You might have seen it all over the states outside parties, events, and even in Europe.

Since then Leyla Safai and her partner in crime have been fine tuning their electro tunes under the name Heartsrevolution. They're coming out with a new EP and their first single, C.Y.O.A., or Choose Your Own Adventure, has a remix compilation coming out on I HEART COMIX. The comp has remixes from Lazaro Casanova, Brodinski, Lauren Flax, CFCF, and Dan O.
