Fuerza Bruta launches DJ Connection Series

It was going to happen eventually, and I'm happy they finally did it. Fuerza Bruta, the off-Broadway performance show from the creators of De la Guarda, is celebrating their one-year anniversary and have launched the DJ Connection series.

The series, starting this fall, will host international DJs every Thusday night playing music to the Fuerza Bruta show. The first is on October 30th with The Juan Maclean, followed by Derrick May, David Waxman, and Dave Hollands every week thereafter.

If you haven't seen Fuerza Bruta, it is an awe-inspiring piece of alternative performance fueled by pumping rhythm and energy. The audience is an important part of the show and is encouraged to participate throughout the production.

Tickets are on sale now for $45 (normally $75).

Going.com now in more cities, including Philly and DC

Sorry for the lack of updates this past week, I was down in DC for family stuff and in Philly for my cousin's graduation. It seems like a perfect time as I've just gotten back to New York to post about Going's new site and featured cities.

If you're not familiar with Going, its basically an events-listing social-network website. Promoters or users post events and can host guestlists and invite friends. It opened up first as "HeyLetsGo.com" and changed its name to "Going.com" shortly after. Started in Boston, its spread like wildfire, and nowadays most underground events in New York City thrive from the website. You can find anything to do thats edgy and fun, mostly for free, on the site. We here at Subdrive love the site's great design and alway-improving features and the LAWLESS events, such as THE BBQ on May 31st, are always posted on Going.

I was at an Art opening in DC and mentioned the site to folks, who responded to me with blank stares like "What the hell is Going?". Who knows, maybe DC's art scene and burgeoning underground dance scene could make some great use of Going. If you're in DC May 31st, go see MSTRKRFT at 9:30 Club, presented by BlissPop, and hosted sponsored by the site Brightest Young Things (thanks CityPaper!).

Events this week (Miami + NYC)

Ok, so yeah, I'm not at Winter Music Conference this year, but have fun if you're going. There are tons of parties that are going to kill, but Miami isn't the only place to be. If you're in New York this week, trust me, you won't be bored.

Tuesday night the 8-bit Atari punks Crystal Castles are performing at Studio B.

Famous Friends are throwing another great party called Fresh Arrest w/ AC Slater, VDRK, and Bradley D, Wednesday night at Happy Ending.

The guys from CUT NYC are throwing an awesome party of epic proportions on Thursday at Studio B celebrating the three-year anniversary (happy birthday to you, we're 3 too!) of the CUT parties. Institubes Paris Terror Club: Para One, Surkin, Bobmo; Trouble & Bass DJs are all going to be destroying Studio B. We'll be there covering the party, so come out, say happy birthday to Shark and the Capt and while you're at it, say hello to us!

Simian Mobile Disco will be rocking out as well at the One Step Beyond party at the American Museum of Natural History. Seriously, seeing them playing live in the space section is pretty awesome. Their setup already looks like it came from deep space. The show is apparently sold out but you can try your hand at winning some tickets here while listening to the entire "Attack Decay Sustain Release" album too!

Now for Miami, I can't even list the amount of events this year. I'll just point you to The List which basically has the entire lowdown for everything WMC in Miami. I'll post some shows later today that you shouldn't miss.

Fuerzabruta in NYC!

Photo by Joe Fornabaio for The New York Times

This isn't really an electronic music event, nor is it about a dj. This is more about a phenomenal theatrical event that's finally here in New York. If you're familiar with De La Guarda, the awe-inspiring, in your face, acrobatic show; you're going to love this! From the same people comes Fuerzabruta, which translated from spanish means Brute Force. Completely different than De La Guarda, the show is more ambitious and epic than the last. I had the chance to catch the production when it debuted about two years ago in its native Argentina and I was floored with what I saw. As in De La Guarda, the audience is an important part of the show and is encouraged to participate throughout the production.

You can catch the preview performances now through October 23rd at the Daryl Roth Theater at 151 East 15th Street here in New York City. Regular performances begin October 25th and run through February 17th, 2008.

Tickets are now available online through Telecharge.

BT Performing for Free @ Sullivan Room in NYC

It's rare that a big show like this happens with such an important and influential artist as BT. He's pretty much the guy that pioneered trance and nu-school breaks and he's amazing live. The deal's even sweeter when the show is completely free. Just RSVP at Going.com!
