Since we launched
our 2009 Survey, I've seen lots of requests for more SELEKTOR mixes and DJ mixes in general. Well folks, you've been heard and we're going to be doing our best to post many, many more mixes this year.
So starting that all off tonight is this fantastic mix I got in the mail from the
Chrome Kids, a blog and DJ crew from the UK showcasing some of the best in dubstep, grime, bassline, and as they call it "the digitally mutated bastard offspring of hip-hop". The mix, titled "Hulk Hop vs Crunk Rock", is a best of compilation of the aforementioned, but the guys explain the mix best:
It’s with great pleasure that we unleash our brand new Mixtape on your earlobes. Hulk Hop Vs Crunk Rock is stacked full of the meatiest Dubstep, Grime and the kind of bass heavy digital Hip-hop which has a dozen or so tenuous genre titles such as Lazer Bass, Robo Booty, Turbo Crunk and Glitch hop. Anyone familiar with our Chrome Kids Music blog will know the deal.
As commentators on the scene, the lack of definitive titles for anything can be frustrating at times but as artists we love it. Robo Crunk and Hulk Hop are not meant to be our claim on the sound’s monikers, simply a few more fun names for the mix. The music itself evolves with such a rapid fluidity it almost seems a shame to try and lock it down with titles, plus all music Subcultures are taking their dying breaths, so who really wants to create another one?
Still, for us this music speaks with the most relevance for the times we’re living in now. Our background, although most prolific in Hip-hop takes in a youth of Dancehalls, Raves and Jungle nights, and between us we’ve deejayed at Reggae nights, Rock nights, Punk nights, Drum & Bass nights, Bhangra nights and Free Parties. For us being Chrome Kids is the natural development from all of these, and Hulk Hop Vs Crunk Rock is our soundtrack for the moment.
So throw on this mix and pump up the bass to 11, the Chrome Kids are taking over tonight.

Day after Halloween treat for you all! I first came across
Streetlab earlier this year on the pages of Going.com. But before then, they had a remix played on the BBC's Radio 1, the guys have released their first track on RCRD LBL/Downtown
for free download and are playing a bevy of live shows in NYC and hopefully soon abroad.
Streetlab might bring to mind old-school bigbeat acts like the Chemical Bros and Crystal Method, but their sound is all their own with a harder and four-four rock rhythm which is straight up for dancing. You can hear it in the stuff they produce as well as in their choice and style of remixes. It comes as no surprise that their SELEKTOR mix is tinged with their own recuts of some pretty big rock tracks as well as original tracks from their new EP.
So now that you know who they are, or at least a little bit more about them, I'm psyched to share their SELEKTOR mix, made exclusively for Subdrive, to help promote their new EP out now at all digital shops and on a cool
limited-edition USB-wristband format.

Recorded live in a wall-shifting art gallery tucked away in a shady non-descript street in Manhattan, OCD absolutely killed it and got the kids going crazy.

We've come to the last set in our BEMF Live series; I know you've all been waiting for this one. It's a pretty big thing when you can cross over from a genre to another, but it's a whole other thing to be successful in both and have consistent gigs. AJ, aka ,
Treasure Fingers, aka one part of the internationally-known American drum 'n bass group
Evol Intent, has done just that.
With
Cross the Dancefloor, Treasure Fingers has affirmed his place among the top of the crop of new up and coming producers in the genre. Including being on A-Trak + Nick Catchdub's Fools Gold, he's got a pretty good startup in the electro scene.
Mix years and years of producing and DJing as a part of Evol Intent and you've got a bonafide superstar in the making. This final live BEMF set is a testament to that as you can hear him tear through massive bangers and just make the crowd go insane. Catch him on tour worldwide now and definitely pick up his new

We
wrote about
Todosantos about a year back when we saw their first live show at Monkeytown in Brooklyn. Needless to say, we were blown away by the sheer audiovisual impact and the fact that they had all the pieces of the music puzzle together.
If you didn't read the article, Todosantos are an energetic 4-person group hailing from Venezuela now living in New York. Their performance is a mix of live VJing and graphic manipulation with their own original tracks that mash up house, electro, latin music, breaks, ghettotech, and more to form a sound they like to call "tukky bass".
Mix all that together on a hot summer night on a canal with a huge crowd and you've got Todosantos' explosive BEMF-closing set! The live set is just part of the puzzle; you need to SEE them to appreciate the performance so check out their
myspace for upcoming shows.

We're reaching the end of our ongoing BEMF live series here on the site with only 2 sets left to go!
Today's comes from Brooklyn's own
Purple Crush. Isla from Crush got everyone pumped throughout the day as the official MC of the festival; you may have heard her hyping the crowd on some of the live BEMF sets. They just released their new aptly titled album,
Blog Party, and you can pick it up on
iTunes or at
Turntable Lab!
If you're in Europe catch them on tour through September with dates in Paris, Zurich, Malmo, Copenhagen, Venice, and Berlin. Full tour schedule and details on the
myspace.

Another live BEMF performance from Aussie-NY electro-rockers
Lismore! First time I ever met someone called Penelope, for real. Their set was great and now you can hear it anywhere you are. Enjoy Lismore LIVE from the BEMF!
Oh and everyone should know that these recordings would not be possible without the help of
Impose Magazine and the amazing technician Jesse DeRosa who sat in the heat the entire day making sure all of these sets would sound fantastic! Thanks guys!

I finally listened to this from beginning to end and I have to say New York's
Rekles, aka Daniel Casanova, did a fantastic job bringing the energy up, but at the same time playing tracks that just meshed with the outdoor vibe perfectly. You'll get what I mean when you hear this fantastic set. Pump it out at your next party while the heat is still around!

We've gotten through almost half the lineup at the BEMF, but there's still more to come! Today's installment is from West-coast native, now Brooklynite,
Loose Shus & Brooklyn's own
Romanoff who together did a tag-team set at the festival. Beard, shades, and computers in hand, they rocked out the afternoon time-slot at the festival and warmed the gravel up for the dancers later that night.

This BEMF set comes from New York promoter, producer, and DJ:
Cobra Krames. He djs and promotes with his friend Nick the Duke as
COBRA KAI. I'm really psyched to share this set with you all, he absolutely killed it at the festival!
If you missed him definitely catch him at one of the 12 dates he's got booked in New York through September or his other shows in Miami, Montreal, or Chicago. Check the

They keep coming! This one is from Brooklyn party-starters
VDRK and
Neon Coyote. Subdrive readers should know VDRK well as he did a
SELEKTOR mix for us at the beginning of the summer.
Since then he and Coyote have been tearing the house down at various parties all around New York city and across the states. Check out their live sets back-to-back here in the latest installment of the Live BEMF series.

Third installment of the LIVE BEMF series!
The Glass' live set is a combination of their DJ skills and live performance. As one of the guys told me, they start off with a DJ set to pump the crowd up and then when they feel the crowd's going crazy, they do their original stuff.
Oh, and definitely let us know what you think of this set and all the BEMF sets in the comments.

Here is the 2nd installment of the Subdrive LIVE at the 2008 BEMF DJ sets!
Finger on the Pulse are twin brothers Terry D and DJ Never Forget and together they throw the popular Brooklyn party with the aforementioned FOTP name. They rocked a great mid-afternoon set at the BEMF and now you can hear it in its entirety!
Labels: brooklyn electronic music festival, finger on the pulse, selektor, subdrive live

Been a while since we've had a Selektor mix posted but, trust me, it's been worth the wait. This one comes from New York DJ and designer
VDRK (pronounced VEE-DEE-ARR-KAY) and is HUGE! I mean, he's jammed 40 tracks into a 35 minute mix. But every track is expertly mixed and lushly overlapped together, making this Selektor mix one to pump at your next party.
He DJs and throws parties with the
Famous Friends crowd here in NY, and is on the up and up with dates in LA, here at home, and Europe all summer. Be sure to check out his remixes and tracks as well on his

My, my, how things change in less than a year. We used to focus mostly on drum 'n bass here on Subdrive and slowly shifted over to more dance-floor friendly stuff. It seems a lot of DJs and producers in the dnb scene are doing the same either by going electro or doing dubstep (like our boy
Claw).
Noisia has done something of the same. They came out blazing crazy mind-melting dnb tunes and have now actually done very well producing some top-notch electro/breakbeat bangers like
Yellow Brick and
Raar. This here's a mix they did for BBC 1 which actually has those tracks and several other electro-flavored tunes. Enjoy!

Subdrive Selektor is back and the first summer selektor is Angel Alanis! I mentioned him before on the season finale as I played his track first on my set. This man is set to do big things and his productions are taking the dance floors by storm listen here as he presents a full mix for your listening pleasure.
Angel Alanis (aka A-squared, Subsonic) is one of today's most diverse and consistent producers of dance music to come out of Chicago. With an uninterrupted flow of releases since 1997, he has unleashed explosive tracks ranging from funky disco workouts to tribal house, through the depths of hard-house and minimal techno.
Angel's distinct production style has given him the opportunity to collaborate with and re-mix for artists such as Sinead O'Connor, Kool Moe Dee, Felix Da Housecat, Julia Fordman, DJ Dan, Robbie Rivera, and a re-mix for Joey Negro, which occupied the #1 spot on Billboard.
In 1997 Angel released his debut EP "Advanced Therapy" via Contact Records. The record caught the attention of Bad Boy Bill's infamous label group, Mix Connection Multimedia (MCM). Angel delivered his next track "Reverse Polarities" (1997) which launched the MCM label Contaminated Records. Soon Angel was officially signed to MCM and went on to release numerous classic tracks through Contaminated, International House Records (IHR), and Moody. In 1999, Angel delivered his full-length debut album The Subconscious State of Techno, which received outstanding reviews from publications like URB, BPM, and MIXMAG, as well as critical acclaim from artists like Armand van Helden, Judge Jules, and Laidback Luke.
In 2001, Angel formed his independent label, A-Squared Muzik, and released his underground hit "Do You Like the Way You Feel When You Shake". It was featured on numerous compilations world-wide, including Darren Emerson's "Global Underground: Live in Singapore," Charles Feelgood's "DJ Mixed," Christian Smith's "Tronic Treatment", and DJ Dan's "In Stereo."
A-Squared Muzik also gave Angel the chance to showcase other DJ’s and producers that he felt deserved a chance to be heard. “The reason I wanted to start my own label was to be able to put out the music I am passionate about and also give other producers a chance to release their music” Angel has said. Other producers that have released tracks on A-Squared include Robbie Rivera, Advent, Jon Pegnato, Bryan Cox, and Trevor Rockcliffe.
2004 proved to be a plentiful year for Angel. He secured a spot on BPM Magazine's Top 100 DJ List, produced DJ Colette's Dancestar Award winning song "Feelin' Hypnotized" which was showcased in a Motorola commercial and released on OM Records, he released brand new tracks on DJ Dan's In Stereo, Donald Glaude's Eden, and released the funky floor filler "InternASStional" on his own label A-Squared.
Starting 2005 off with his track "Knob Job" getting licensed to John Digweed's Fabric 20 CD, and completing a remix of “Don’t You Go” for Felix Da Housecat on Subliminal Records, Angel is spending most of his time in the studio working on his full length artist album titled “Jukebox” which will be released in April 2006 on his label A-Squared Muzik. The album will include a remix of “Knob Job” and a wide variety of sounds from all genres of music. Angel has become one of the pioneering artists in today's dance scene, having helped carry techno and house music into the new millennium as he continues to push the boundaries of dance music into the future.

Claw's first introduction to electronic music came in 1999 at the infamous Houston massives and smaller raves where he saw acts like Ed rush and optical and Dieselboy that lead to a love affair with electronic music and drum and bass. He then bought tables shortly after going to his first party and by 2000 after many hours of bedroom practicing, he made his public debut and was a resident DJ at Cardis nightclub for the drum and bass weekly event on mondays in Houston. From there Claw went on to play the other weekly events and underground parties in Houston until he moved out to Orlando in 2003 to attend Fullsail. While in Orlando Claw honed his production and DJ skills through working with various local artists and started to play the local drum and bass events. His last gig before leaving Florida was opening for John B at the bank nightclub. Claw moved to upstate New York after finishing at Fullsail and got picked up by Ming & FS as their assistant engineer.
He started an assistant job at a local recording studio in upstate New York (www.leopardstudio.com) and from there plans to release killer mixes and have a whole host of original tracks and projects that will soon be taking over the drum and bass charts worldwide.
