Subdrive - the Label

After many years of running this site, I'm super excited to announce that we have officially formed an open-source digital record label launching TODAY.

When we set out to create the label, we thought of what needed to be changed in the industry, how the artists could interact more with the fans, and vice-versa. The blogs have created a whole new way for the fans to critique and share music, dealing directly with artists. But the one thing that was missing was that though a lot of the music was free, it was all one-sided. Beyond the artist giving a free track to the blog, who in turn gave it to readers and fans worldwide, thats where the process ended.

Today we're announcing that with every single Subdrive release, we plan to include 100% DRM-free stems from the single. These are also available in the highest-quality possible, and by buying them, you are directly supporting the artists. We don't take a cut of these sales at all. We want everyone, not just producers and professionals, to have the oppotunity to try their hand at a remix. And if we hear something we like, we'll release it and give a cut of the profit to the remixer!

We will also always have a free edit in 320kbps MP3 covered under the Creative Commons Share-alike license for anyone and every blog to download.

So to inaugurate our first release, I'm extremely proud and excited to share with you all the debut single, "DTF", from our first signing, Terror Dactel. Pick up the DJ friendly 6 minute original mix on May 19th when the track drops on iTunes worldwide followed by releases on Beatport and Juno.

Sorry for the Major Outage!

Hey everybody, just wanted to apologize greatly for the site being down since Friday. We have not been shut down nor are we closing down.

We got hit with a large surge of traffic and went over our bandwidth with our previous host. We've moved over to a new one which hopefully won't have the same problems.

Again, I apologize for the mess. Some links may not be working due to the migration process (which should be done by Monday) so, if there's a bug, let us know!

Best,

The Subdrive crew

Tech update on Subdrive

Hey everybody, just giving you a heads up that from now on all future videos included on our podcast will be encoded in .MP4 format. This is to ensure full compatability with all portable devices including iTunes. I noticed that many of the .mov files I post sometimes don't function on iPods or iPhones so I wanted to make sure that from now on that problem is resolved.

Let me know if there's anything else I can add to the site or podcast to make it work better.

Thanks!

Download the Subdrive podcast Directly from your iPhone!

Apple has just released version 2.2 of the iPhone operating system. With it, the iTunes store on the phone now has the ability to subscribe and download podcasts anywhere. So what does that mean if you want to listen to Subdrive?

First make sure you have the 2.2 update. Plug in your phone to your computer as usual and upgrade. From there, just log onto iTunes on your iPhone and click on search, then type Subdrive. The podcast will come up and from there you can download individual mixes and songs or subscribe to get them all!

A quick note, files larger than 10MB will not download over the cellular network so you'll need WiFi for the SELEKTOR sets!

Domain Issues

We had some domain issues which resulted in users being shown a parked page or no page at all when pointed to our domain. If that EVER happens, you can always access the site at the mirror, subdrive.djgalbis.com.

Sorry for the problem!

HiDeaf @ Spiegeltent at South Street Seaport, September 14th, 2008

If you're not too burnt out from the massive Minitek festival, Asterix and I will be DJing as HiDeaf representing the Subdrive crew at Biatch Corp's Spiegeltent party on Sunday, September 14th. It's a pretty big lineup for New York underground music which has a lot for the minimal, tech, and house crowd.

We're on for two hours, so this is definitely an event you shouldn't miss. It's during the day, under the brooklyn bridge with hammocks and a dance floors right next to the water! If you liked our sets at the BEMF and other parties, be sure to check us out and support!

It's $10 w/ RSVP at going.com/spiegeltent. Below is a promo video for the show.

Review/Rate Us on iTunes!

So it's been a while since we've heard from folks about how we're doing. We've gotten e-mails here and there and word of mouth. But we definitely want to hear what you all think of our podcast.

If you've got some time, jump on over to our review page on iTunes and give us a score. 1 star means really crappy and 5 stars means amazing. Share your thoughts, praise, criticisms with us and if you think we need improvement, let us know and we'll do it.
